Needs Statement

Practitioners who serve as preceptors for student rotation experiences often have no formal training in the education process. They will benefit from receiving some structured training in developing learning experiences for students and helping them organize the learning process through development of a syllabus.

Target Audience

Anyone who will be preceptng a pharmacy student.

Objectives

1. Define “syllabus” and describe its use
2. List and describe the usual components of information included in a syllabus
3. Describe how a syllabus helps the preceptor and the student
4. Develop a process for designing and evaluating potential learning activities
5. Discuss ideas to facilitate student learning and management of the rotation experience

Statements of credit will indicate hours and CEUs based on participation and will be issued online at the conclusion of the activity. Successful completion includes completing the activity, its accompanying evaluation and/or posttest (score 70% or higher) and requesting credit online at the conclusion of the activity.
