Overview
The 2010 Addiction Health Services Research (AHSR) conference will convene at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Lexington, Kentucky, from October 25-27. AHSR welcomes researchers, practitioners, and policymakers who are interested in health services research related to drug and alcohol dependence. Through plenary speakers, symposia, and a poster session, AHSR provides opportunities for sharing recent research findings, discussing opportunities to improve the quality of addiction health services, and networking with colleagues. The AHSR conference has traditionally had excellent attendance by senior researchers, new investigators, and funders of addiction health services research.
Each year, AHSR has included presentations that share thematic elements. The theme for the 2010 AHSR conference is Health Services and Medical Innovations for the Next Decade. This broad theme is intended to encourage research presentations that address points of intersection between addiction health services and the broader field of medicine. Examples of such innovations include pharmacological treatments for addiction, the use of web-based approaches to deliver health services to patients and deliver training to providers, the integration of health information technology (IT) to improve and better manage treatment delivery, and the integration of the SBIRT (screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment) model into mainstream medical settings.
In addition to presentations related to the conference theme, the 2010 AHSR conference encourages abstract submissions on a range of topics related to addiction health services including (but not limited to):
• Implementation of evidence-based addiction treatment practices
• Adaptation of treatment services to reflect a recovery-oriented system of care model
• Delivery of HIV-related prevention, testing, and treatment services
• Service delivery for individuals involved with the criminal justice system
• Methods for improving the quality of addiction health services
• Innovative methods for improving treatment access and treatment retention
• Integration of services to address co-occurring substance abuse, mental health, and/or physical health conditions
• Strategies of enhancing and retaining the addiction health services workforce
