Biosketch
Dr. Archer was born in New York and attended Wake Forest University as an undergraduate. He completed medical school at Chicago Medical School and then completed a residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Dr. Archer was recruited to help start the Otolaryngology program at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in 1988. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery with an active interest in clinical research and medical student and resident education.
Since 1998, he has been selected as one of the 100 Best Doctors in his specialty. Dr. Archer is well written in the medical literature and lectures extensively to other medical groups. His main areas of interest and expertise includes care of the professional voice, management of acute and chronic nasal and sinus problems, otolaryngologic allergy, head & neck cancer, and facial plastic surgery.
He is the Medical Director of the UK Voice and Swallowing Clinic and Medical Consultant for the University of Kentucky Opera Program and many other regional Opera and Voice programs. In addition to his faculty appointment at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, Dr. Archer is former chief of Otolaryngology at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lexington. Dr. Archer is very active in academic medicine and is a member of many professional societies.
He currently serves on the editorial board of several Otolaryngology publications and several committees for the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and its Board of Governors and on the Board of Directors for several non-profit community organizations.
